Summary:

Book covers methods of creating texture images which are applied to 3D objects.  Topics covered include image map types, space textures, industrial textures and organic object textures.  Beginners will learn how to make the various types of image maps.

Who should buy?:

This is a good book for anyone just starting out creating texture maps for 3D images.

Book is too basic for advanced 3D artist.

Highpoints:

  • Technigues can be applied in other paint programs such as Paint Shop Pro 5
  • CD based supplementary material

Lowpoints:

  • Needs more description on the different image map types, (bump, diffusion, etc).
  • Does not mention UV mapping technigues.
  • Could use more color photos.  A lot of the usefulness of the examples it lost in B&W

Planet 3D Rating:   2 moons! out of four.
