Water Ripples using Terrains created in
Paint Shop Pro 5

ripple_start.jpg (10547 bytes) Create a new picture in Paint Shop Pro 5.  Paint solid with a med. gray.
In the center use the selection tool to select a circle.

For the next step you will need the Filter Factory Filter: Heightline.  Which is in Gallery C.  This tutorial assumes that you are already familiar with using plugins.

Apply the filter Heightline.  Mode should be set at around 84.   Use distortion to adjust the height of the waves.  It seems to affect the center more than anything else.  Divisions will change the number of waves in the circle.

Next invert the selection.  Spray paint a lighter shade of gray with the ocean texture.

Now invert the selection again and feather by about 4 pixels.

Apply the image blur.  This will help to soften the boundary between the wave and the calm water.

Then go into Bryce.  Create a terrain.  Edit the terrain and and select new.   Go to the picture tab.  Load the grayscale in to the second picture. Your done!  You might try the smooth function if the water looks to ruff.  You will probably find yourself going back and forth between the programs to get the look that you want.  But, hey that's part of the fun.
