Snow Capped Objects

Even though Bryce has the ability to make snow capped objects using the deep texture editor I have not had success with it.  Particularly with close up objects.  The snow just doesn't look good.   So I came up with another way which works well on Bryce rocks.  First create your object.  I choose a rock for this tutorial, but any similar object will do.

Apply the desired texture to it.

Next copy the object using copy under the edit menu.  The paste it and leave it selected.  Make the object a little bit smaller that the original object.  Also offset it  above the original object as shown.  Check from the top to make sure that it positioned the way that you want.

Lazziter sent me the suggestion to the right about positioning the snow cap.  Thought it was worth including.

Here's a suggestion on offsetting the snow-textured object.  If you select an object and hold down alt and press page up/page down, it will move the object up or down slightly.  You can also use this with the up, down, left, and right keys to move along the z and x planes.

Now apply a snow texture to the copied object.  I used the setting shown.  You might experiment to find the texture you like.

Next render the object and check the placement of the snow.  You might have to adjust the second object to get the snow placement just right.

That's it.   Snow capped objects in a few easy steps.  Have fun.
Please let me know what you think of this tutorial.
